How can you honor your ancestors in your wedding ceremony?
Many couples want to honor their great grandparents or grandparents during their wedding. They question how they can do so without making the ceremony feel like a memorial service. There are several things you can do to honor your grandparents and other loved ones.
1. The bride can carry a small locket on her bouquet with their photos. She can wear a piece of vintage jewelry from on of her grandparents.
2 Include words of wisdom or sayings from them in the ceremony. Some couples will use part of their grandparents wedding ceremony, either the vows or a reading that was special to them.
3. Have memorial words spoken or light a memorial candle during the beginning of the ceremony. By placing the memorial words at the first of the ceremony, the energy of the ceremony will be happy after that.
4. Have a table with photos and memorabilia of theirs on it. Old photos of grandparents, great- grandparents and others who have passed on make for a really pretty table, especially if covered with an old lace table cloth.
5 Place a rose in the chair where they would be sitting as you enter for the ceremony. A photo can also be placed in their chair with or without a rose.
6 Have a family tree in the reception area with photos of family members on it.
7. Display wedding photos of all the generations you can gather. Parents, grandparents, great, grandparents and great-great-grandparent’s photos placed together makes a beautiful tribute to the love of your family.
8 Use family heirlooms in decorating. Grandma’s teapots filled with flowers makes a beautiful center piece for the tables. Pocket watches and small tools (cleaned up of course) look good when used during steampunk themed weddings.
