How to have wedding vows that are truly representative of your relationship and love!
You want to have your wedding vows be unique to your relationship and represent your love and devotion to each other. But, you don’t feel like you can write your vows, you don’t consider yourself a writer. You can still have customized vows that are completely representative of your love.T here are several ways you can create unique wedding vows.
Remember in all things wedding, Google and Pinterest are your friends! Spend time finding vows online that speak to you and speak for you. It is not necessary that each of you repeat the exact same words as part of your vows. You may each pick different vows—these are the promises you are making to your lover, so it is not unusual for them to be different. Each of you can research separately and independently for the words that are meaningful to you.
What happens if you find portions of vows that you like and other portions that are not meaningful? You can pick and chose different lines, phrases and sections from vows and have your wedding officiant work them into beautiful vows. This allows you to have customized vows without actually writing them. It also allows your officiant to work them into the form and flow that is appropriate for the rest of your ceremony.
You think you want to write your vows but don’t know where or how to begin? The advice we give our couples is to work together to develop some ground rules. Examples of those rules might be:
200-300 word limit
Begin with a set phrase such as—“I fell in love with you because………” “I love you when……”
Followed by another set phrase---“I want to spend the rest of my life with you because…..” “I want to marry because…….”
Ending with something along the lines of --“I promise you………”
Write independently not allowing the other to see your words so that on your wedding day it is new to them.
Keep it fun and representative of your relationship. We have seen promises to pick up the towels, stack leftovers properly in the refrig, or try to be on time.
Another method would be to collaborate and write your vows using a similar format but working as a couple
Send the vows to your officiant for use in the wedding. Allow your officiant to provide them written for you on your wedding day. This way you don’t have to memorize them and you won’t have to remember to bring copies with you. All your wedding officiant to remove as much stress as possible from your day!
Another option is to allow your wedding officiant to find vows they believe represents you based on their knowledge of you.
Discuss with your wedding officiant what their guidelines are concerning vows. Each officiant has different favorite vows or different ways of doing custom written vows. Use their knowledge and expertise to have the perfect vows for you.
