EMERGENCY KITS: Important things to remember on your wedding day!

There are lots of things you have to remember on your wedding day. You can relieve a lot of stress if you put together an emergency kit to have on your wedding day. This can be done in advance so you know it is a matter of picking it up and going! Simply put the kit together at an otherwise slow planning time, put it all in a tote bag or carry on suitcase, and then pick it and go on your wedding day. This could be a task assigned to your wedding party!

Each of you should have your own personal emergency kit—you will need different things. Since most couples do not spend much, if any, time together prior to the ceremony on your wedding day it is difficult to share an emergency kit.

I talked with Jennifer Ball of Knot Your Average Events and Krista Ridge Smith of Magnolia Ridge Photography about what they recommend couples have as emergency kits for their wedding day. Each of these women are professionals who spend the most time with couples on their wedding day and know what is often needed.

These are items that are needed by members of the wedding party and sometimes needed during decorating and set up.

At minimum your kit should contain:

  • Deodorant

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

  • Mouthwash

  • Mints

  • Hairbrush and hair spray

  • Bobby pins

  • Safety pins

  • Lighter or matches

  • Your preferred pain reliever-aspirin, Advil or Tylenol

  • Sanitary pads or tampons (it is amazing how many women start their period on their wedding day)

  • Superglue

  • Band aids

  • Small sewing kit

  • Medications

  • Lotion

  • Clear nail polish

  • Small snack such as protein bars

  • Bottled water

  • Straws so make up does not get disturbed while driinking

  • Tape-scotch, duct and double sided

  • Pen and Paper to send notes to each other

  • Eye drops

  • Contact care items

  • Shoe polish

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug spray

  • Handkerchiefs

  • Lint brush

  • Tissues

  • Sunglasses

  • Extra pair of socks

  • Extra tie

  • Cuff links

  • Extra backs to ear rings

  • List of emergency phone numbers for all members of the wedding party

  • List of all contact information for vendors

Each of your professionals should have their own professional emergency kit to meet their own needs during their time at your ceremony.

There are a few things that are absolutely required—these are not emergency kit but are required for the wedding and deserve separate mention—Don’t leave home (or the hotel) without them:

MARRIAGE LICENSE WEDDING RINGS

Dress, veil and shoes

Tux, Suit and shoes

Items for the ceremony-sand-blending supplies, hand-fasting cords, candles, roses, etc.

We hope that you have a fully stocked emergency kit that is never needed on your wedding day and will serve as the foundation for your medicine cabinet in your new marriage!
