3 Ways to ruin your wedding
1. Pinterest
While Pinterest is a great place to get ideas for your wedding, it is important to remember that not everything you see there will work for you. If you are not a crafty sort of person, many of the DIY decorations will not turn out like you want. If you are insistent that you can learn how to do something, you will have a steep learning curve and often an expensive one! Often, you will end up spending money on the supplies to do it yourself, spend many hours trying to make it like you want, and then end up spending money with a professional to get what you really wanted. There are also some decorations that are cheaper to rent than they are to make yourself. Where will you store 25 fish bowls and all the gravel and decorations you need for them? What will you do with them after the wedding? Do you really have the time to put everything together?
2. Having friends do all the work
Your friends want to come to your wedding to celebrate with you. They often don’t mind helping out before hand, or even with small simple tasks on the day of your wedding. Mostly, they just want to party with you. When your friends are doing most of the work of your wedding, you become their supervisor! You must tell your friends what you want done, when and how. This takes up time from your day, time you should be spending celebrating and being with your new husband or wife. How will you handle friends not completing tasks or not doing them to your satisfaction? Is saving a few dollars by not hiring enough staff worth your friendship and the stress of having to end up doing most of it yourself?
3.Hiring based on price alone
Everyone is on a budget! Some have budgets that are bigger than others. We get that. It is important to remember that you get what you pay for. If you don’t care very strongly about a service or a product and are willing to accept whatever you get, then hiring based on price alone might work. What do you feel is very important to your wedding day, whether that is your dress, your flowers, the words being spoken or the photos you have forever? Those are the areas you need to consider many other things in addition to price. What other things should you consider when hiring a professional for your wedding? How many other weddings have they done? How many reviews do they have on sites like WeddingWire or the Knot? Are they listed on most of the larger wedding sites? Did you find them only on Craigslist or Thumbtack? Do they have a website where you can see samples of their work? Are they members of local professional wedding associations and national associations for their specialty?
