What is a Unity Ceremony and Why Do You Want to Include One in Your Ceremony?

We are often asked, “Why should we include a unity element in my ceremony?”

Frequently couples start off the conversation saying they don’t want any “extras” in their ceremony. Once we begin talking about all the elements of a wedding ceremony and how each one can be customized to the couple, they begin asking questions and exploring all the options.

Unity ceremonies such as the most popular ones—Unity Candles or Sand-blending—help couples represent their coming together to form one family unit. Many couples only consider these two options and think they don’t represent their feelings or relationship. They rule them out altogether. They don’t realize that there are as many unity ceremonies as there are couples!
