Traditional; or Personal---Does not have to be Either Or! It can be both!
We were so fortunate to work with Beverly and Doug on their wedding ceremony. During our initial meeting, we spent a lot of time sharing stories and laughing. It was obvious that their relationship was built on open communication and humor and lots of trust.
They wanted a traditional wedding but wanted to be sure to make it represent their love and relationship. This was not difficult to do for the ceremony. Traditional wedding vows, prayers and scripture represented their beliefs. Beverly found a recording of her mother and father’s wedding in 1973, officiated by her mother’s father! Beverly transcribed the recording and picked out sections of their wedding she wanted incorporated into her ceremony. This brought family tradition into the ceremony while allowing Beverly and Doug to add elements that were meaningful to them.
At the reception, a slide show documented the childhood of each of them and their time together. It was great sitting at the table with people who knew them from all the different time periods of their lives talk about the different photos! It was a wonderful way to get people talking to others they did not know before the wedding.
Doug and Beverly love to travel. Their gift table included a vintage suitcase for the card box. While traveling, they collect postcards of the cities and sights they visit. They wanted to find a way to include their love of travel in their wedding. Instead of table numbers, they used post cards from their travels. When it was time for the tables to be released to the buffet, the DJ released them by calling the city or attraction on the postcard on the table.
Beverly made her wedding day flow so much smoother by having a qualified coordinator running things. This freed Beveryly and Doug from the details and allowed them to relax and enjoy their wedding day. Rachel, the day of coordinator, was Beverly's aunt with experience in wedding planning.
