How to Incorporate Your Theme in Your Wedding Ceremony
Today’s wedding ceremonies offer so many wonderful opportunities to personalize them. You are planning your wedding day around a theme, how can you include that theme in your ceremony might be one question you have.
The answer will depend a lot on the theme you have chosen. Here are some ideas:
Movie theme: Pick a genre and have some quotes from movies included in your ceremony. We have been able to find wonderful love quotes from many different types of movies and include them in the ceremony. Our most recent was a comic book/movie theme. The couple’s vows came directly from a wedding in one of their favorite comics. It was a perfect fit for this fun off beat couple. They extended the theme by using the cover of the comic book where their vows were originally published as part of their program and guest registry.
TV Shows such as Dr. Who are currently popular. Again, you can find wonderful quotes to use in your wedding ceremony. Your officiant should have resources available to help you find just the right way to include them.
Special interests you share as a couple can be incorporated into your wedding ceremony with references to how you share the interest and how it brings you closer together as a couple. Another way to include a shared interest is to have your wedding officiant write a special unity ceremony which uses that interest as a basis. Cooking together is a great interest and lends itself well to a spice blending. Arts and crafts lend themselves to a unity painting. If gardening and yard work are something you share, a tree planting would be a perfect ceremony.
A cultural theme can be represented by traditional wedding activities from the culture. A Japanese Tea ceremony, The Arras Ceremony or The Seven Steps are ways some cultures can be included. This is a time you and your wedding officiant will need to work closely together to be sure the ceremony is authentic and properly executed. If it is something your officiant is agreeable to, they can wear appropriate cultural attire.
If you don’t want the wedding ceremony itself to contain any theme elements, you can still include them in the program by using illustrations and styles of printing appropriate to the theme. Choosing flowers appropriate to the culture would be another way to include a cultural theme.
Even the couple’s attire can be a part of the theme. By now we have all seen the Superhero t-shirts on the grooms attendants. Others wear clothing representing the theme such as SteamPunk or Renaissance.
You are not limited to having your theme only as a part of invitations, and the reception. Use your creativity and ask your wedding officiant to work with you to truly make your wedding ceremony just as wonderfully unique as you are!
