How to Avoid Big Mistakes in Picking your Wedding Date!

So, the big question has been asked, “Will you marry me?” The answer was “YES!!” Now you want to pick the perfect date for one of the biggest day of your lives. But how do you do this. What do you consider?

Do you have a special date in your relationship? Maybe you want to celebrate your first date by getting married on the same date. Some couples hold their wedding ceremony on a special anniversary such as the date they became engaged, or the date a set of grandparents were married. Once you have decided the answer to this question there will still be important information to gather.

Are you going to need to reserve a large block of hotel rooms? Will you need to have rental cars available for your guests? If so, you need to know what is happening in the area on the same day as your wedding. Caterers and planners are often booked out for major events, so you want to have as much information as possible when you are planning your wedding day.

If your wedding ceremony is going to occur in the Greensboro/High Point area, there are some important considerations for setting a date. Is The International Home Furnishings Show in town? If so, you know that more than 100,000 people will be visiting the Triad, using hotel space, rental cars and having all the major restaurants strained. Is the Wyndham PGA Tournament in town? Again, lots of hotel space, and rental cars will be used. Also, most of the caterers in the area are very involved in these events. It could affect their ability to do your wedding.

You have dreamed of a spring wedding, check with area colleges on graduation dates. You might be competing with families attending graduation ceremonies.

Your fall wedding might conflict with a local college homecoming! Check dates for major college games and homecoming events. Again, that can result in limited availability of hotel rooms and crowded restaurants.

If you have a special venue in mind and know that is where you want your wedding ceremony, you will need to be flexible in your date. They may already be booked and not available for your dream date. You will need to be flexible in your venue if you are locked into a special date.

One of the great things about working with a professional planner is they know the dates of all major events in the area. A wedding planner can help guide you in picking the date that will be special for you and help you navigate the events going on in the larger community.
